Color Staff Logo  Prairie Montessori School is located in Lochbuie, Colorado (just east of Brighton, 20 miles northeast of Denver on Interstate 76) serving children ages 2 1/2 to 8 years old.  Our Directress, Ann Massengill, is a 30 year veteran Montessori and public school teacher.

We have two Montessori classrooms: one for the preschoolers aged 2 1/2 to 4 and a
class for kindergartener through lower elementary students ages 5-8.

Primarily, our students will receive the benefits of the prepared Montessori environment including practical life, sensorial, language arts, and math areas presented with the exceptional, traditional Montessori materials. They will develop their sense of order, coordination, concentration, and independence while establishing a life long love of learning.

Along with a solid Montessori foundation, the children at Prairie Montessori School will receive a well integrated, arts based education complete with the experiences of dance, music, instruments, theater and hands on art forms. Ann has a Masters of Education with a concentration in Arts Integration and a wide range of theatrical and dance experience to enhance the classrooms. There will also be exposure to both Spanish and French languages, gardening, cooking, and community involvement.

Our goal is to nurture a school that is a place where families can thrive and we can all form a cooperative group of compassionate individuals focused on the care and growth of the youngsters in our midst. Please feel welcomed to contact us and join our community.

About our Directress:

Ann Massengill has been involved in Montessori education for 30 years.  Most recently, she was the administrator and directress at the Brighton Montessori School and before that taught a 1st and 2nd grade Montessori classroom at Bromley East Charter School.  For many years Ann specialized in teaching music and movement at many metro-area Montessori schools, including BMS, and has previously managed two in-home preschool programs.  She is a regular instructor at the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies (MECR) in such topics as Practical Life and Music & Movement, and has participated in student evaluations and as a field consultant.

Ann has Montessori certifications from MECR in both primary and lower elementary education, a B.F.A. in Music from Ramapo College (NJ), and an M.Ed. in Integration of Arts into the Curriculum from Leslie University.

Outside the classroom, Ann has performed for eight years with a group based in Boulder called "Zvakanaka" playing the marimba -- a traditional Zimbabwean percussion instrument similar to a xylophone -- regularly performs with "Aster", a Broomfield-based women's chamber ensemble, and recently joined the cast at Jester's Dinner Theatre in Longmont playing the Ghost of Christmas Past in their production of the musical "Scrooge".  She also sings in both the Joy Ensemble Worship Band and Chancel Choir at Brighton's First Presbyterian Church.
